How We Did This
This particular shipment was a Mining Machine weighing 77,000 Kgs (77 tons) with dimensions of 1510 x 480 x 560 cm and was transported by road to the port of Xingang, 2 cranes were need to load the machine into the hold of the vessel which had been part chartered, The machine was shipped to Rotterdam as breakbulk cargo, from there it was moved by barge to an alternative terminal for loading to a vessel destined for Narvik, Norway again under part charter.
A heavy lift crane was hired at Narvik for unloading of the machine this was transported to Narvik on 5 trailers assembled and used to lift the machine onto a low loader for the final onward journey to the site location just outside of the Port of Narvik
Why SIG?
The challenge was to find a suitable solution to get the machine to Narvik, options were limited, we decided to ship via Rotterdam due to the availability of a breakbulk charter service from this port.
To ensure the transhipment was handled correctly representatives from SIG were onsite in Rotterdam to ensure the complex transhipment process went smoothly.
Not only did we successfully deliver the machine to the site we ensured every stage of the shipping process was handled professionally and without any major obstacles. The commitment of the operations team at SIG to ensure this shipment went smoothly cannot be underestimated
